The Auto Assault Shotgun 12 (AA12) / also known as the Sledge Hammer, originally designed and also known as the Atchisson Assault Shotgun, is a 12g caliber shotgun developed by Maxwell Atchisson in 1972. Its most famous feature is the significantly reduced (virtually completely eliminated) recoil during shooting. The current 2005 version has been in development for almost 18 years from the date the patent was sold to MPS Inc. The original design was the basis for several other weapons, including the USAS12 combat shotgun. Originally, the AA12 has a rate of fire of 300 rounds per minute. The replica achieves 1800 shots per minute (30 / sec).

Manufactured by Tokyo Marui, the AA12 replica is the world's first airsoft electric shotgun. Made of durable, polymeric plastic, the body conceals a skeleton and internal parts made of metal. The place for the battery is in the replica's stock, in order to get to the battery compartment, remove the stock's foot by tilting the wings. The replica will fit LiPo batteries with a capacity of 1400 mAh.
